Before there was any digital photography photographers used polaroid to have a quick look to check before the real photo (many photos in my case) was taken.
To check the light, the frame, location, etc. So what you see here is most of the time one of the assistants on the polaroid, because they were the first one to check with.
I can’t remember which years this was, but is all in the 80ties and 90ties.
